ULCD7 Lite (for BeagleBoard-xM)/BeagleBoard-xM LCD7

The image on my screen appears to be upside down. What's wrong with it?

  • It has been reported some ULCD7 Lite's EEPROMs have been corrupted. Please follow the instructions here to reprogram the EEPROM of the board.

My ULCD7 Lite was not shipped with bracket stands. Is this a mistake?

  • ULCD7 Lite is shipped with 1.250" aluminum stand-offs. Bracket stands are optional and can be purchased at BoardZoo.com



BeagleBone DVI-D Cape

Nothing shows up on my DVI-D monitor. What should I do?

  • Make sure the software you are using supports the revision of your cape. Refer to the Software Support section if needed.
  • The output resolution of the DVI-D Cape is hardcoded to 1024x768. Ensure your monitor supports this resolution. You can also change the output resolution by rebuilding the kernel.
  • Some monitors have their EDID EEPROM responding to all addresses, including the one on the cape. A solution would be removing the I2C2 voltage translator U3 to disconnect the monitor's EDID EEPROM. You will not have access to the monitor EDID after removing U3.
  • If you are using more than 1 cape, ensure the EEPROM addresses on all capes are different from each other. The EEPROM address can be changed by adjusting the 2-bit dipswitch on the cape.

Does the DVI-D Cape support audio interface?

  • The BeagleBone DVI-D Cape only provides DVI-D interface for BeagleBone. No audio interfaces are supported by this cape.

Does the DVI-D Cape support HDMI interface? It has an HDMI connector.

  • The BeagleBone DVI-D Cape does not support full HDMI interface; it only provides the DVI-D interface portion. An HDMI connector is used since it has a smaller size. An HDMI-to-DVI-D cable is required to use with DVI-D Cape.

Should I plug in the HDMI-to-DVI cable before or after the board is powered on?

  • Only plug in or unplug the HDMI cable when the board is not powered. Hot plugging or unplugging while the board is powered on may damage the board or cable. Refer to the Getting Started section for how to start using your DVI-D Cape.

My board looks like some parts have not been populated. Is this normal?

  • This is normal. The same bare PCB is used to manufacture DVI-D Cape, Audio Cape, and DVI-D with Audio Cape. Some parts on the BeagleBone DVI-D Cape are not populated since they belong to the audio circuitry.

BeagleBone LCD7 Cape

Nothing shows up on my LCD7 screen. What should I do?

  • Make sure the software you are using supports the revision of your cape. Refer to the Software Support section if needed.
  • If you are using more than 1 cape, ensure the EEPROM addresses on all capes are different from each other. The EEPROM address can be changed by adjusting the 2-bit dipswitch on the cape.
  • The LCD7 Cape should be powered by a 5V DC supply. We recommend you to use a 5V 2A supply. If you power the board using USB cable, it may not provide enough power for the backlight circuit. Refer to the Getting Started section for how to start using your LCD7 Cape.

BeagleBone LCD3 Cape

Nothing shows up on my LCD3 screen. What should I do?

  • Make sure the software you are using supports the revision of your cape. Refer to the Software Support section if needed.
  • If you are using more than 1 cape, ensure the EEPROM addresses on all capes are different from each other. The EEPROM address can be changed by adjusting the 2-bit dipswitch on the cape.
  • The LCD3 Cape should be powered by a 5V DC supply. We recommend you to use a 5V 2A supply. If you power the board using USB cable, it may not provide enough power for the backlight circuit. Refer to the Getting Started section for how to start using your LCD3 Cape.

My LCD3 backlight keeps flickering. Should I request an RMA?

  • If you have LCD3 revision A2 or later, ensure you are using proper supporting software. Please refer to the Software Support section on LCD3 wiki page. The PWM signal in revision A1 is now configured to control the LCD backlight in revision A2 and later; therefore, LCD3 of revision A2 when used with older software will experience the flickering in heartbeat pattern.

BeagleBone RS232 Cape

My board looks like some parts have not been populated. Is this normal?

  • This is normal. The same bare PCB is used to manufacture CANBus Cape, ProfiBus Cape, RS232 Cape, and RS485 Cape. Some parts on the BeagleBone RS232 Cape are not populated since they belong to the circuitry of other serial interfaces.

I couldn't receive any output from the RS232 serial port on my computer. What should I do?

  • Make sure the software you are using supports the revision of your cape. Refer to the Software Support section if needed.
  • Ensure your serial cable is compatible with the cape. Refer to the board schematic for the RX an TX pin location. The board documentations can be found here.
  • The default UART port is UART2. If you would like to use a different UART port, you need to rebuild the kernel and move the jumpers to the corresponding UART port TX and RX.

BeagleBone Weather Cape

There are two temperature readings from my Weather Cape. Is this a mistake?

  • The BeagleBone Weather Cape features two different sensors that can measure temperature data: BMP085 (pressure/temperature) and SHT21 (humidity/temperature). When reading from I2C, temp0_input indicates temperature data measured from BMP085, whereas temp1_input indicates temperature data measured from SHT21.

U4 looks like it is not populated. Is this normal?

  • This is normal. BeagleBone Weather Cape is shipped with an option for users to use a 1-wire temperature sensor DS18B20. Capacitor C5 and three test points from U4 are provided.
