Jetson/mini-PCIe
mini-PCIe is a smaller version of the traditional PCIe desktop standard for add-on cards. mini-PCIe has been used in most laptops for Wifi as well as Bluetooth or SSD.
There are 2 types of mini-PCIe: full-height (30x50.95mm) and half-height (30x26.8mm). They both have the same electrical connection but different lengths stick out when plugged into the socket. Note that half-height mini-PCIe looks almost identical to mSATA and thus it is common to confuse mSATA SSD cards with mini-PCIe SSD cards. Sometimes they are actually compatible but not always.
Half-height mini-PCIe add-on cards (directly usable)
Jetson TK1 has the mounting holes for a half-height slot, so the following cards can be used directly:
- Gigabit Ethernet LAN. Verified as working on the forum.
- 802.11a/b/g/n/ac 5GHz dual-band 867Mbps Wifi + Bluetooth 4.0 & BLE for $33 (untested). Works best with a dual-band antenna + adapter.
- 802.11a/b/g/n 5GHz dual-band 300Mbps Wifi + Bluetooth 4.0 for $29 (untested). Works best with a dual-band antenna + adapter.
- 802.11b/g/n 2.4GHz 300Mbps Wifi for $12 (untested). Uses AR9287 chipset that is considered free by FSF. Works best with an antenna + adapter.
- 2G/3G Modem (untested).
- 32GB mini-PCIe SSD for $133 (untested).
Full-height mini-PCIe add-on cards (indirectly usable)
Jetson TK1 has the mounting holes for a half-height slot, so a full-height card can be used but it will stick out a lot and not be physically mounted firmly, unless if you use a full-height to half-height mini-PCIe adapter board.
- 128GB SSD (untested).
- 3G Modem + GPS combo (untested).
- SATA RAID (untested).
- USB3.0 (untested).
- Dual Gigabit LAN (untested).
- 4 x RS232 serial ports (untested).
- FireWire (untested).
- Analog video capture (untested).
